Memo-ry: the rhythm (ry) of the mind (memo).
According to the Greek philosopher Antisthenes “The investigation of the meaning of words is the beginning of education.”
Well, I would add that “The investigation of the meaning of words AND LETTERS is the beginning of education.”
The letters are the basic units for the creation of meanings, words, concepts, ideas, sounds and more.
Since the world is on alert again due to the Omicron variant of Covid-19, it got me thinking about the meanings of the letters themselves, because it is not pronounced “O”, but is pronounced as “Omicron”.
O-micron is a small wholeness (O) that has a beginning (Alpha) and it aims to become great (O-mega).
27 letters composed the ancient Greek alphabet (now there are only 24 in Modern Greek) which are divided into three enneads (groups of 9). The first ennead was from Alpha to Iota (Alpha ennead), the second from Omicron-Iota to Omicron (Omicron ennead) and the last one from Pi to Omega (Omega ennead), as shown in the picture attached.
Note: the initial Alpha and Omega symbols are the following:
These symbols/letters are mirroring each other. Their square form is shown above, and their circular form is shown below:
Later, the other Alpha and Omega symbols were created which are:
Back to the enneads now!
Why enneads though? Why the number 9?
Because, according to ancient Greeks the number 9 is related to creation. It takes nine months to bring a human life into this world. Right from the start (Alpha), it takes nine letters (first ennead) to reach Iota, where Iota means an infinitesimal amount, but not unimportant one. The atoms are considered the smallest particles of an element but that does not mean they are of insignificant value. They exist for a reason. Every small element exists to create a wholeness, where this wholeness might be big (O-mega) or small (O-micron) depending on how someone looks on things. The earth for example is big for us but small if compared to the universe.
The same applies to how our body works. Our body consists of numerous cells which are the basic units of life and beginning point (Alpha) of a living being. Later, these cells form the tissues, leading to the formation of organs. Here, we see small wholenesses (O-microns) forming larger structural wholenesses leading to the formation of our entire body (O-mega).
Anyway….back to Iota…., namely y o u!
In some languages, humans refer to themselves using the Iota letter: eg “I am”, “Ich bin”, “ Io sono”, “Ik ben”.
As soon as the first ennead ends, the Iota letter enters the wholeness, hence the letter “Omicron-Iota”, entering the Omicron ennead; the ennead that exists between the Alpha ennead and the Omega ennead.
After the O-micron ennead, the Iota is aiming for the O-mega ennead.
Every single one of us begin (Alpha) with small steps but nobody knows the ripples of one’s actions how far they can go and the impact they can make. We must always see the bigger picture (O-mega) but do not forget that God is in the details (O-micron).
What I am saying is that we must always be careful regarding our actions and never think with egocentricity. Yes, every single one of us is important (Iota) but through our genuine actions we contribute to the wholeness of our societies (O-microns) because only united we can aim for great thinks regarding the wholeness of humanity (O-mega).
Always care about humanity, not only for yourself. And this is something I learned from music. As a pianist, I always wanted to contribute to the wholeness of music, not only to myself. And this is something music taught me; to become a musician who listens to their fellow humans and cares about them.
We should do the same. We must listen to each other and collectively think about the future (O-mega). By acting in the present, we create the wholeness of our societies (O-microns), never forgetting where we started from (Alpha, the past).
The pictures attached below, show the three enneads into a circular form, where all three co-exist simultaneously creating the world we live in since everything around us has a name. From Alpha to Omega, and from Omega to Alpha, where the last letter of Omeg-a is the letter Alpha creating a wholeness that never stops. A wholeness that is not trapped into a vicious circle, but it ascends, rises, develops and evolves infinitely.
It is important to note here that according to the images, the enneads have their own rotation and trajectory. If we see the Omega ennead, we will ascertain that is moving anti-clockwise going like this: Omega, Psi, Chi, Phi, Upsilon, Tau, Sigma, Rho, Pi.
If you connect the letters Psi and Chi highlighted red, and put them together “psichi”, you actually create the word psychē, which means soul in Greek.
Unfortunately though, we forgot all of this. We forgot our history (Alpha), where history means the rhythm (ry-) of the tissue (histo-, as in the word histology), while tissue comes from tistre "to weave”. That is why our memory - namely the rhythm of our Mind - is stuck on dead-end societies (O-microns) where the future of our entire world (O-mega) seems pretty scary. And now it seems that we are unable to weave and connect the knowledge that the past bestows upon us with the present, causing fear for the future.
The words lost their true meanings and instead of using them to create a better world, we use them to hurt each other. The same applies to the world of mathematics. Instead of counting to infinity, we count pain, suffering and loss every single day. Instead of health, we chose diseases. Instead of creation, we chose destruction. Instead of wealth and abundance, we chose debts and poverty. Instead of justice, we chose injustice, inequality, lies, hatred……And the list goes on.
And that is why we cannot reach the true O-mega anymore. Especially now with the health crisis, instead of using our words and letters to inspire, we use them to depress. We use them to describe diseases and sicknesses, because we decided to disrespect our environment and our fellow humans.
And on top of that, we believe that this is something natural, reminding me what George Orwell said in 1984:
To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again, and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself—that was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Even to understand the word—doublethink—involved the use of doublethink.
2 + 2 = 5
War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength.
A word for example whose meaning has been distorted is the word politics. We believe that politics means corruption. No!! It does not. It means to be polite and through your principles and civility which set the beginning point (Alpha) of your actions and choices, you create for the greater good (Omega).
It does not matter what language you speak and where you were born. From A-Z, Α-Ω, A-я, etc., always think of your fellow humans and how important the collective is, which consists of all of us. Connect the words, their letters and their sounds and take a stand.
I am writing this article not because I want to tell you what decision you must make regarding the health crisis we live today.
This is totally up to you.
I just want you to think of your actions before you make them. I will do the same.
And in order for this to happen, we should first restore the meanings of our words and the purpose they serve. Cause if we don’t, then miscommunication will continue to exist, bringing even more chaos.
Re-member who you are and through your creative memory, you will again (re-) become a true member of the wholeness that is your society.
Infinite respect and honor to Artemis Sorras who reminded me that the unification of all people is the key to freedom.
United we stand, divided we fall.
